I'm Rebecca Jacobson. I live in Portland, Oregon, where I'm digital editor at Portland Monthly. I've lived in Berlin—I edited the stage section at Exberliner magazine, chased after mayhem-battling mimes, and tracked down my distant Jewish ancestors—and before that spent several years at Willamette Week, covering theater and film (as well as bikes, beer, and little-known scraps of local history). My story “80 Million Paige Views,” about a ghost-obsessed YouTube star, was named best arts feature at the 2015 AltWeekly Awards.
I studied history at Brown University, and followed that New England stint with a year of independent research about women and dance in Malawi. While abroad, I also worked as a writing correspondent for Glimpse, a (now-defunct) nonprofit supported in part by National Geographic.
I like bikes, mountains, baked goods, and archives.
